Donnybrook Youth Club

It runs in St. Mary’s Donnybrook on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm for 6-10 year olds, and Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm for 11-16 year olds. There are arts and crafts, football, uni-hoc, pool, air hockey and table tennis tables, as well as football, volleyball, singing and dancing. We are adding a homework club this year to encourage more teenagers to use the facilities. The Junior and Leaving Cert homework club will run from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday nights with games after, to encourage the teenagers to have some fun, as the saying goes “all work and no play ”
The club on a Wednesday night caters for 35 energetic kids, running up and down stairs, in and out from hall to kitchen, chatting and laughing the entire time.
Thursday is more hectic again, as from 7pm to 8pm the club caters for both the younger and older groups. However, when the younger one leave, the night becomes a more chilled affair with some football or hockey scores to settle, pool and table tennis competitions and even some baking!!! This night is a good chance to hang out and have a chat with the teenagers. However the competition of the volleyball matches between the teens and leaders is stuff of legend and is usually hilarious.
The club gives valuable life experience to all volunteers and a great feeling for giving your time to children that really appreciate it. As for the volunteers it’s a great way for meeting new people and there is a great social aspect to the group outside of the club.
