Ad resurgendum cum ChristoThe recently Promulgated Vatican Instruction regarding the remains of those who died has been the subject of controversy and comment, much of it of the usual negative kind. The Instruction, like all public statements, wherever they originate, are mediated to us via the news and social media. Media rarely publish the statements themselves, so all we get is commentary. 

Donnybrook ChurchOn 26th August 1866 Cardinal Cullen, Archbishop of Dublin,celebrated the opening of the new Church of the Sacred Heart for the Parish of Donnybrook with a High Mass.

We are now one hundred and fifty years since that momentous event in the history of the Church and plans are well advanced for a weekend of celebrations to commemorate that day.

Church of the Sacred Heart 150 YearsWe are appealing to Parishioners to bring photographs and memorabilia of events that have taken place there over the years to be exhited as part of the 150 year celebration.

Novena Poster 2016 002Events are finalised for the National Novena to Our Lady of Knock will take place from the 14th – 22nd August. The theme for this year is ‘Merciful like the Father’ in keeping with the Jubilee Year of Mercy. The Novena will open with Most Rev. Bishop Michael Smith and the Meath Diocesan Pilgrimage as well as guest speaker, Mr. Noel Smyth, Businessman and Solicitor who whose talk entitled ‘God and Mammon- doing the right thing’ will explore the topic of business and ethics. As in recent years, workshops will take place daily at 12 noon and 6pm on a range of interesting and contemporary issues.

good citizen esther mcgrathOur parishioner Esther McGrath won the Dublin City Good Citizen Award in the Age Friendly Category. This category recognising the work of older volunteers, or those who provide services for older people e.g. a person who looks out for and visits an older neighbour.

WMF first collectionPope Francis has chosen Ireland to host the 9th World Meeting of Families during 2018. The dates and theme of the Meeting will be announced by Pope Francis himself.

Father John Sullivan SJ JesuitsPope Francis has approved the beatification of Venerable John Sullivan (1861-1933).  The Holy Father approved the decree that authenticated a miracle attributed to Father Sullivan at an audience with Cardinal Angelo Amato, the prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Many miracles have been attributed to the Jesuit priest who was baptised into the Church of Ireland (his father’s tradition) and who became a Roman Catholic (his mother’s tradition) in the second half of his life.

Faithfest is an event for teenagers which aims to help build a sense of a peer community, explore faith, and encounter an experience of Welcome, Belonging, Discipleship, Worship and Prayer in a creative and fun atmosphere. It is shaping up to be our best one yet with a Brilliant Band, Super Speakers and Wonderful Workshops.
