The Eighth Amendment Discussion materials

The Irish government has decided to arrange a referendum to repeal the Eighth Amendment of the Irish Constitution. The discussion is going to be really difficult and this page is intended to help people form their consciences before voting.

The Eighth Amendment reads as follows:

The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right.

(Article 40.3.3º)
